TEAM NEWS

Tottenham forward Rafael van der Vaart is likely to neglect Tuesday's trip to Norwich after suffering a hamstring injury in Thursday night's 1-1 draw against Chelsea. Spurs will give tests to Jermain Defoe and Younes Kaboul (both hamstring) before deciding whether they will play any part in the clash at Carrow Road. Ledley King is unlikely to play having completed two games in five days while Aaron Lennon (hamstring), Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) are out.
Norwich have no clean injury concerns for the home clash. Defender Kyle Naughton, on loan from Spurs, will miss the match through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves in midweek. Former Everton striker James Vaughan is on course for a back in the new year from his knee problem, along with centre-back Elliott Ward (knee). On-loan Manchester United defender Ritchie de Laet (back) could return.New dad Russell Martin is not about to lose any nap at the prospect of shackling "on fire'' Tottenham wing-back Gareth Bale at Carrow Road.

Scotland international Martin, 25, has produced a string of consistent displays in the Norwich defence - including in the 4-2 win over Newcastle earlier this month when his partner Jasmine had gone into labour ahead of the birth of their first child, Reno.

With Kyle Naughton, on loan from Spurs, set to serve a one-match ban, the likelihood is Martin will be asked to go out to the right side of defence.

The former Wycombe defender, capped against Wales at the end of last season, is ready for whatever challenge high-flying Spurs conjure up.

Left-back Neil Taylor is Swansea's just major fitness doubt for Tuesday's match. The Wales international suffered a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, but a scan has revealed there is no ligament damage and he still has a chance of featuring against Neil Warnock's side. Winger Nathan Dyer is also set to be available, after missing out with a foot problem against the Toffees.
QPR will again be without Anton Ferdinand. The 26-year-old defender returned to light training on Friday after a hamstring injury, but manager Neil Warnock does not expect he will back until the game with Norwich on January 2. Shaun Wright-Phillips went for a precautionary scan on a knee complaint on Friday, while fellow midfielder Kieron Dyer is out for the time after undergoing foot surgery.
Swansea midfielder Joe Allen heads into Tuesday's Liberty Stadium meeting with QPR desperate to gain revenge for the hiding the Welsh side suffered against the Londoners this time last year.

Both sides were chasing promotion from the Championship when they met at Loftus Road on Boxing Day, but it proved to be a miserable day for the Welsh club as they suffered a resounding 4-0 defeat.

But with Rangers having sealed the Championship title and the Swans claiming play-off glory, Allen and his team-mates will obtain the chance to make amends as they look to continue an excellent home record that has seen them defeated just once on their own turf.

Defender Johan Djourou is ahead of schedule in his return from a groin injury and could play for Arsenal in Tuesday's home game against Wolves. Kieran Gibbs (groin), Andre Santos (ankle), Carl Jenkinson (back) and Bacary Sagna (ankle) are unavailable, meaning Francis Coquelin, Ignasi Miquel or Sebastien Squillaci could make a odd start in defence. Alex Song returns from suspension, but Jack Wilshere (ankle), Lukasz Fabianski (knee), Vito Mannone (shoulder), Abou Diaby (hamstring) and Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) are out.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has no fresh injury concerns but will check on the availability of midfielder David Edwards and defender Jody Craddock. Edwards has missed the past two games with a groin injury while Craddock played in a behind closed doors friendly against Crewe in midweek behind a three-match absence with a hamstring problem. Full-back Kevin Foley also appeared against Crewe - his first action since ankle surgery in October - but he is unlikely to be involved against the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal to expect a footballing test when miracle-worker Mick McCarthy brings his battling Wolves side to Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had an extra 24 hours to prepare for the game following the decision to set the fixture back from Boxing Day because of industrial action by some London Underground staff.

While Arsenal have their sights set firmly on the top four after bouncing return from the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City with an away win at Aston Villa, Wolves are scrapping for every point to stay clear of being dragged into a relegation battle.

Premier League

Stamford Bridge, England

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is hoping David Luiz will spare him a defensive disaster for Boxing Day's west London derby against Fulham.
Villas-Boas found himself down to just one centre-half in Thursday night's Barclays Premier League game at Tottenham after Branislav Ivanovic limped off injured, along with midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Both look set to miss Monday's Stamford Bridge showdown, but Villas-Boas was optimistic Luiz would back from a knee problem, while he may recall Frank Lampard with Ramires suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
Fulham have no fresh injury concerns heading into the clash.
The Cottagers are physically unscathed from their 5-0 home defeat to Manchester United in midweek and have been boosted by Steve Sidwell's back to training after a hernia operation.
The 29-year-old, though, is unlikely to feature against his former club at Stamford Bridge and will be joined on the sidelines by fellow midfielder Simon Davies (back), goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer (spine) and defender Zdenek Grygera (knee).

MANAGER QUOTES

Andre Villas-Boas (Chelsea): "We could have David Luiz available to back on Boxing Day. But we are in the market for another centre-half and we have to respond quickly when the transfer window opens."
Martin Jol (Fulham): "I don't think we are cruising confidence, it's about teamwork. If you work as a team, we are good and our goal difference has shown that. That's probably been a big plus for us this season.
"But that is something we destroyed on Wednesday with the five goals (we lost to Manchester United). If you play as a team, you don't concede goals and you always get your chances. But if you conceded early like we did, then you get tired as well and that's not what you need."

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says winger Gareth Bale is "very doubtful" for Thursday's London derby against Chelsea due to an ankle injury.
Aaron Lennon is out with a hamstring injury, Ledley King's chronic knee injury means he is unlikely to step out against the Blues after playing against Sunderland at the weekend, and Jermain Defoe is a doubt due to a hamstring trouble.
Younes Kaboul returns from suspension, Emmanuel Adebayor has a minor foot injury but should play, while long-term absentees Tom Huddlestone (ankle) and Michael Dawson (Achilles) remain sidelined.
John Terry is well and will start the match at Tottenham, despite being charged with racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.
Terry, who categorically denies the allegation, has shaken off the Achilles tweak he suffered during open training on Monday and will guide out the side at White Hart Lane.
Midfielder Ramires has recovered from a leg injury but defender David Luiz is still out with a knee problem, joining long-term injury victim Michael Essien on the sidelines.

Emile Heskey will be missing with an Achilles problem, while James Collins is doubtful for the game, having picked up a knee injury.
However, Gabriel Agbonlahor will back after serving a suspension against Liverpool.
Arsenal will be without any recognised full-backs for the game at Aston Villa.
Johan Djourou joined Kieran Gibbs (hernia), Andre Santos (ankle), Carl Jenkinson (back) and Bacary Sagna (ankle) on the sidelines on Sunday when he suffered a groin strain at Manchester City that will remain him out for around three weeks.
Ignasi Miquel or Sebastien Squillaci could therefore make a rare start in defence.

Barcelona lost forward David Villa to a horrible leg break in the semi-final win over Al-Sadd. Javier Mascherano too suffered a knock in the closing stages.

MANAGER QUOTES

Pep Guardiola: "The players all felt sick for David after the game. They are extremely down. I told them it can happen to anyone at any time. David is going to be out for a long time and now we will have to win the Club World Cup without him. It will take a long time to return from this kind of break."
Muricy Ramalho: “[Barcelona] are of course the top club in the world: team structure, organisation … I admire Guardiola. But in Brazil we want to win every day. If we don't, we get fired immediately. Ibrahim Afellay remains sidelined for the Catalans though. Rayo Vallecano are expected to return Javi Arribas with Michel Labaka in defence. MANAGER QUOTES Pep Guardiola: "The loss (to Getafe) isn't terrible. I don't think the league has slipped away. There is motionless a long way to go. We can afford fewer slip-ups now. We will keep working hard and shift forward." Jose Ramon Sandoval: "Barcelona have little margin for error because they cannot afford to lose at home. Getafe took away three points and we will try to take away three points ... you can vary tactics but the philosophy will be the same that we have had from the start of the time." MATCH FACTS Barcelona have won only two of their last eight league meetings with Rayo (three draws, three defeats), though they have not met since 2003. Since 2000, Barcelona have averaged fewer points per game vs Rayo than any other side in Primera (1.14, Real Madrid 1.47, min. five meetings). Barcelona have won their final eight league games at home to sides from Madrid, and are unbeaten since December 2007 (0-1 vs Real Madrid). In 2010/11, Barcelona dropped points against each of the three newly-promoted sides in La Liga. However, seven goals conceded in 13 games is Barça’s greatest defensive start to a La Liga campaign since 1988/89 (seven too). only three teams have picked up more points on the road in La Liga this season than Rayo (nine, the same as Barcelona). Lionel Messi has averaged two goals per game at the Camp Nou in the league this period (14 goals in seven matches). MATCH ODDS Barcelona 1/14, Rayo Vallecano 28/1, Draw 9/1.

MANAGER QUOTES
Jose Mourinho (Real): "Maybe Atletico will win. If people think it is simple, maybe we will lose, or maybe we will win anyway. It's a derby, anything can happen regardless of form. My first was managing Benfica against Sporting. We were dreadful, had only just changed manager and were doing really badly in the league; they were champions, and we thought we'd get beat 4-0. We won. This will be close - if someone wins it will be 1-0 or 2-1." Gregorio Manzano (Atletico): "We will do everything possible to win this match. We must prevent Real from expressing their attributes, of which they have a lot of . We have to make it a tight game and look to exploit the space between the lines."

Atlético have only managed to win on 12 of their 74 league visits to Chamartín, drawing another 12 and losing 50. Atlético have been defeated more frequently by Real Madrid in Primera than any other side (81 times), 18 more times than Barcelona (63). Rayo forward Koke has returned to the squad following injury, but Dani Pacheco - on loan from Liverpool - misses out. Veteran forward Raul Tamudo is also named in the matchday squad after a spell out, while Raul Bravo, Sueliton Pereira, Nestor Susaeta and Miguel Angel Sanchez 'Michel' are every omitted. Valencia are without the injured Ever Banega, while Vicente Guaita and Victor Ruiz are doubts. They are put to rotate too, after being matches at home and in Europe against Real Madrid (2-3) and Genk (7-0). Miguel may be rested, with Antonio Barragan coming in at right-back, while Angel Dealbert could replace Ruiz at centre back.
MANAGER QUOTES
Jose Ramon Sandoval (Rayo): "Valencia are the leaders of what I call the 'regular' Liga. Barcelona and Real Madrid don't add up. We have to make sure Roberto Soldado doesn't get the ball - he is their danger man - but we can't just focus on one player." Unai Emery (Valencia): "(Soldado) is the star of our team and he has got to this level through hard work. But we are clever to count on ourselves as a collective and this is why we are doing well."
Importance of valencia
Rayo Vallecano coach Jose Ramon Sandoval has a fully-fit squad to choose from as his side host Valencia - but has warned his players that despite their good begin to the season, their next three games will severely test their ability at this level.
The promoted side be seated in the top half of the Primera Division having lost only one of their last five matches. However, after Valencia they are away to Barcelona before facing Atletico Madrid next weekend. "Whoever plays against Valencia will have to give their all and then we will see what happens,'' Sandoval told a press conference. "The match against Valencia is right now our principle focus and if we win the three points we can approach the other games in a different manner, with the self-assurance that will give us. "That is why the first match is so important, but we know they are three teams of Champions League-level quality.'' Valencia shook off the disappointment of beat at home to Real Madrid last weekend to thrash Genk 7-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday. However, despite being cut adrift from the top two in the league and having the chance to progress in Europe in two weeks' time when they face Chelsea, midfielder Pablo Hernandez has stressed the importance of their next two league fixtures. He told the club's website: "Right now there are two games to play in the league [before the Chelsea match], and we are set for a tough game against Rayo Vallecano. "We want to beat them in order to keep up with the frontrunners. "It's okay to have the journey to London in the back of our minds, but we should not get distracted and lose touch with Barcelona and Real Madrid as a result. "Rayo play good football, they have come up from the second division and have the squad to stay up. It's going to be a tricky game.'' Victor Ruiz had to be substituted at half-time against Genk and is a doubt with a minor hamstring strain, while Vicente Guaita's wrist injury should ensure another league start for Diego Alves in goal.

Massimiliano Allegri: "[Zlatan] Ibrahimovic is fine. He can’t wait for the game like all the others. We want to keep calm until tomorrow evening and the from the kick off, we’ll have to play 100 minutes of really intense football, with lots of respect for Barcelona but without being reverential towards them." Pep Guardiola: "To come here is an honour, when you go in this stage one breathes in the air of tradition, history, something great. It gives a sensation that we are in a country with so much passion for football. Tomorrow we have to have a perfect match, otherwise it will be very hard for us to win. We know that in November and December teams are reaching their top form. Besides, Milan are very strong. We cannot go out and play at 80 per cent. It is important for us to go out and be ourselves, and being ourselves means not playing for a draw."
MATCH FACTS

Bayer are without first-choice keeper Rene Adler and Switzerland international Tranquillo Barnetta due to long-term injuries but key midfielder Andre Schurrle is likely to play behind being rested for a 2-0 win at Kaiserslautern at the weekend. Renato Augusto, Karim Bellarabi and Hanno Balitsch are all out. Didier Drogba is fit after making his return to deet in the defeat to Liverpool, so Andre Villas-Boas will have to choose between the Ivorian and Fernando Torres. Michael Essien is the only key absentee for Chelsea.
MANAGER QUOTES
Robin Dutt: "The home advantage after two wins really helps. We played well in London and are coming off the back of a win in the Bundesliga. We know Chelsea aren't doing that well in the Premier League and are 12 points behind the leaders, we respect their players, but they are under pressure and we are hoping to find a win. I haven't seen major problems in Chelsea's defence, especially at centre-back, and I think the English press is a bit more critical then here. I don't see too many problems in the centre of defence, we let David Luiz run at us in the initial leg and he scored against us." Andre Villas-Boas: "The most important thing is finding winning ways straightaway - if possible against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. That is a massive game. Then we have three games in the Premier League where we should try to get nine points. The challenge is to have the belief and strength to fight for those nine points. But if we find nine points, it would put us in a different perspective. It is not bright for us but we have to find that belief."

Juergen Klopp: "Practically nothing tops beating good teams. We managed that (against Bayern) and we can do that once more on Wednesday. It will be a different challenge, but today was an important sign that we can also do this at Arsenal. It was a great day for us."

23:30 (GMT) November 15, 2011 Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez, Santiago, Chile Referee: Lopes, Heber (BRA) Chile defender Jose Rojas hopes to repay the support shown by his side's fans in the wake of Friday's mauling by Uruguay when they take on Paraguay in their fourth 2014 FIFA World Cup™ qualifier tomorrow. Chile were thrashed 4-0 by a Luis Suarez-inspired Uruguay and locate themselves second-bottom of the South American qualifying group with three points. That was Chile's second big defeat in three games, having lost 4-1 to Argentina in their opening match, but despite that Rojas insists the mood in the camp is good heading into tomorrow's match in Santiago. He also revealed the squad had been boosted by the reception they received from supporters following Friday's loss, telling reporters: "Losing to Uruguay was tough, but the love of fans at the airport cheered us up. We have to win for them." Rojas is not expecting it to be easy though, adding: "Paraguay are very good at dead balls so we must be careful if we want to pick up the three points." Chile are set to be boosted by the go back of Alexis Sanchez after he missed the Uruguay match through injury. The Barcelona forward is in line to replace Carlos Toro in the side. Paraguay go into the match having picked up four points from their opening three games, leaving them level on points with three other sides - Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela. Paraguay claimed their first qualifying win after beating Ecuador 2-1 on Friday but coach Francisco Arce knows his side will need to have their wits about them tomorrow rider they are to have a chance of making it two wins from two.

WC Qual - CONMEBOL 21:00 (GMT) November 15, 2011 Roberto Meléndez, Barranquilla, Colombia Referee: Fagundes, Salvio (BRA) Argentina will be out to make amends for their disappointing home draw alongside of Bolivia when they take on Colombia in the fourth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup tomorrow. Argentina enjoyed a flying begin to their qualifying campaign with a 4-1 win over Chile, but they have suffered a couple of setbacks since then, losing 1-0 at Venezuela before then being held 1-1 at home by rock-bottom Bolivia on Friday. That point was Bolivia's first in three qualifiers, and left Argentina as one of four teams level on four points, three behind first-placed Uruguay. Playmaker Lionel Messi admits his side were left frustrated at dropping valuable home points and is hoping they can get back on track against Colombia in Barranquilla. "We are very angry with the draw because we cannot let the three points slip away when we play at home,'' the Barcelona superstar told reporters. "We must stay working hard and try to get a positive result against Colombia. What we want to do is to find our best form and do our job right. Winning is what matters.'' Defender Nicolas Burdisso added: "The condition is one of pessimism and a lack of confidence. We have to change it. We must not fear. It is up to us.'' Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella is not expecting an simple time of it tomorrow though, against a Colombia side who have collected four points from their two qualifiers so far. "It will be very, very tough,'' said Sabella, who is considering switching things around tomorrow. "We have little time to work and we will seek to get a balance in the team. Maybe we will change our tactics on Tuesday.'' Colombia will craft at least one change with Aquivaldo Mosquera coming in for the suspended Luis Perea in defence. Mosquera knows he has his work cut out for him to contain Argentina's all-star attack, not least Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain. "Higuain is a great striker. We must be very careful with him because he is very difficult to stop in the box,'' the America de Cali defender told Futbolred.com. "Argentina have vast, talented, experienced players but I hope they have a bad evening and we have a good one. Mosquera's fellow defender Pablo Armero, whose side drew 1-1 with Venezuela on Friday, told reporters: "Argentina are big rivals, but we have to think we can show what we can do and go onto the field and do our job right. "Messi is the best player in the world but we fad of Argentina's team as a whole. They have Higuain, (Ezequiel) Lavezzi too.''

19:00 (GMT) October 17, 2011 San Mamés, Bilbao Iraola seeks home calms Athletic Bilbao captain Andoni Iraola is hoping the international break does not affect his side's rhythm when they host Osasuna in the Primera Division. The hiatus came at the worst possible time for Athletic as they were only beginning to find some form with consecutive wins over Paris St Germain and Real Sociedad. The Basque derby win over Sociedad was particularly significant as it was Athletic's first in La Liga this season and saw Fernando Llorente make a welcome return to form to score only his second and third goals of the campaign. Iraola wants his side to pick up where they left off. "The match against Osasuna is important for us because we are still in desperate need for points and are in the bottom half of the league table,'' the 29-year-old defender said. "We won away in the derby but we have still not won at home in the league and we have to make up the ground on the teams over us. "We have an obligation to make it three wins out of three.'' Fernando Amorebieta was the hero for Venezuela last week as he scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Argentina in only his second game since opting to represent the country of his birth, and he is likely to retain his place in defence despite the return of Borja Ekiza from suspension. Llorente missed training earlier in the week with a slight hamstring injury but should recover in time to begin. Ander Herrera is also available after six weeks out with a meniscus injury but is expected to take a place on the bench. Osasuna have good and bad news on the injury front ahead of their trip to Bilbao. Centre-backs Roversio and Sergio have recovered from injury and have been included in Jose Luis Mendilibar's squad but Masoud Shojaei's return from a foot problem has again been delayed. The midfielder is expected to undergo surgery for a third time and could miss the neglect of the season. end

West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie is battling to overcome a foot problem in time for Sunday's derby clash with Wolves at the Hawthorns. Simon Cox and Somen Tchoyi are in contention to replace Odemwingie, last season's top scorer with 15 goals, if he is ruled out. Summer signing Billy Jones is in line to make his first Barclays Premier League start at right-back should Steven Reid pale to recover from his fractured hand. Boss Roy Hodgson has challenged his players to make amends for a "totally disappointing'' performance in their last Black Country derby. Hodgson performed a minor miracle in helping to keep the Baggies in the top flight with 20 points from their last 12 games. But one of their two defeats was via a dismal 3-1 setback against Wolves at Molineux - a result which went a significant way to ensuring Mick McCarthy's side stayed up as well. Albion have also struggled to repeat last season's form during the current campaign and only remain out of the bottom three on goal difference. But Hodgson said: "The players performed excellently for most of the time after I came into the club but we were poor that day at Molineux. "There haven't been a lot of games where we have put in a performance which was totally disappointing or we've found hard to accept or come to terms with. "The one at Molineux would certainly be a fine example and there have been a couple recently where we could have done better. "The players would be the first to tell you the game at Molineux was far from what we should have been doing. "That's part of the battle in some ways because at least, when people know, then you have at least got a chance to put it right and, as a coach, it means you are often preaching to the converted.'' Hoddgson is aware of the increased importance of the game. He said: "I've got a feel for the rivalry. It is stern and, for both teams, it's a big game because we are both at the wrong end of the table. "They started like a house on fire but have since had major setbacks. We started with three defeats but have since taken five points from four games. "It's two teams who want a result and two teams who will be going hell for leather to get that result. I don't think either team will let their fans down. "It's our second season in the Premier League, their third, and is vitally important for both clubs to stop in this division. "We believe we have the wherewithal to prevail the game. We know how much it will mean to our fans.'' Wolves striker Steven Fletcher has been ruled out by a calf injury suffered in training. It leaves Kevin Doyle as the only fully fit experienced striker, with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake not match-fit after a two month lay-off following a knee setback. Left-back George Elokobi is also sidelined with an ankle injury as Wolves look to end a run of four successive defeats.

Lichtsteiner wants reliability Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner has urged his team-mates to focus on consistency when they make the trip to Verona to face Chievo on Sunday. Antonio Conte's side are coming off a morale boosting victory over AC Milan in the last about. The 2-0 triumph in Turin lifted Juve to the top of Serie A, level on 11 points with Udinese after five games. "We overcame an important test against Milan,'' Lichtsteiner said to www.juventus.it. "It was an important victory for our morale but especially because we handed a convincing performance. "That game allowed us to understand our correct potential. "But the tests are never ending in Serie A and now we must repeat that performance otherwise the victory against Milan would have served for nothing. "The game in Verona against Chievo is an opportunity for us to show that we can play always with the same intensity that we displayed against Milan.'' Juve will not take Chievo lightly with the Flying Donkeys having collected seven points from a possible nine in theirfinal three games. Moreover, Chievo, who are eighth in the standings, twice held Juventus to a draw last term and are determined to end the Bianconeri's unbeaten run this season. "This is the strongest Chievo I have ever trained,'' Chievo coach Domenico Di Carlo said. "Many players go on the counter who are potentially first choice picks and we can still improve a great deal. "I tell my players the same thing before every game. We work all week to win, now we're going on to the pitch to achieve it.'' Di Carlo will have evry of his players available for Sunday's game at the Marc' Antonio Bentegodi stadium.

Martinez refuses to get carried away
Levante's amazing start to the season has seen them win their last four Primera Division games and sit joint-top of the table with Barcelona. However, manager Juan Ignacio Martinez refuses to get carried away with his side's current position and says that, given the financial disparity between the teams, just keeping the run going for one more week against Malaga would be a huge achievement. He said: "Hopefully we can keep this stage going for one more week. "We are playing a team I am not going to find out about tomorrow, due to the amount of money that have they were able to maintain their status last year and now the privilege to sign players of an excellent quality. We have other values, such as effort and determination.'' That difference in resources is highlighted by the fact that Martinez will be forced into at least one change from the side that won at Real Betis two weeks ago as Xavi Torres' transfer from Malaga contained a clause that means Levante would have to pay should they field the midfielder beside his former club. Martinez indicated that his place would be taken by either Miguel Pallardo or Francisco Farinos. Malaga will also just make the one change from last time out. Julio Baptista was injured in a friendly against Real Jaen during the international break so Salomon Rondon should claim his place up front alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Venezuelan striker was part of the side that beat Argentina 1-0 on Tuesday night and he is hoping to recreate that success as he goes in search of his first goal of the season on Sunday. "It will be a very competitive match, but we're going there by the mentality that we need to pick up the three points,'' Rondon said. "All strikers want to score goals and doing so is just a matter of time. At the moment we aren't quite in full flow going forward other than generally we have started the season very well.''

Minero join to Zaragoza's injury woes Defender Abraham Minero has been added to Real Zaragoza's growing injury list ahead of the visit of Real Sociedad on Sunday. Manager Javier Aguirre is already without Adam Pinter and Antonio Tomas due to injury and Maurizio Lanzaro due to suspension, while Zaragoza also cancelled striker Braulio's contract this week. The Mexican coach's preparation was further disturbed this week as the Latin American trio of Pablo Barrera, Efrain Juarez and Paulo Da Silva did not return from international duty awaiting Friday. Much was expected of the partnership between Juarez and Barrera down Zaragoza's right side when Aguirre brought both his compatriots on loan after disappointing spells in Britain and, despite improved performances in recent weeks, Barrera says both players know they can do superior. "Aguirre knows us and knows what we are capable of,'' he said. "We know we can do more and we have to show that on the pitch. Now we are settled we should be able to provide more.'' Barrera scored a fine goal on the counter-attack in the 2-2 draw with Villarreal last time out and he admits the goal has been a great boost to his confidence. "It certainly helped my confidence, I had gone a number of matches without scoring and it was my best moment with Zaragoza so far. Hopefully I can continue in that manner and give more to the team,'' he added. Real Sociedad have injury concerns themselves, with Asier Illarramendi and Carlos Vela ruled out of the trip to La Rosaleda, and their preparation for the match has also been disrupted by more claims from winger Antoine Griezmann that he will leave the club then summer. The France Under-21 internationalist made similar claims this pre-season as he tried to orchestrate a move to Atletico Madrid and manager Philippe Montanier has said the player needs to solely concentrate on his football. "What is important is what happens on the pitch - football andjust football,'' he said. "He needs to concentrate, think only about what happens on the field and rediscover his best form.''

TO WATCH LIVE Rayo Vallecano striker Raul Tamudo has admitted that it will be a strange feeling to play against the side he served for over 10 years and captained when Espanyol travel to the capital on Sunday. Tamudo is Espanyol's record goalscorer with 129 goals in 340 matches between 1996 and 2010 and despite acknowledging that Los Periquitos will always have a place in his heart, he is now focused on winning games for Rayo. "For me, playing against Espanyol isn't just another game. Last year I faced them when I was with Real Sociedad but it felt strange after spending almost my entire total there. "Football is like this, but the truth is I never thought I would ever play against Espanyol, although now it is important to win for Rayo. "It is two years since I left Espanyol and after such a long time I now only think about my team, about playing well and scoring goals, but I have some fantastic memories of my time there and I will always cherish them.'' Tamudo has previusly found the net twice since joining Rayo in the summer but knows it is important for his side to get back on winning ways after a run of only one point from the last three games. "Three points would give us a lift,'' he said. "We seem to have been doing pretty well so far and, although the reality is we only have six points, the team could have had more. "It is clear that to achieve our objectives we have to be strong at home, make the most of our stadium and our fans and take the three points against Espanyol.'' Alejandro Arribas suffered a back injury two weeks ago in the 1-1 draw with Racing Santander and is Rayo'sjust absentee through injury. Espanyol will be looking to end a miserable run of form away from home which has seen them take only one point from a possible 33 in away games in the league stretching back to February. Mauricio Pochettino will have Jordi Amat and Walter Pandiani back from suspension after both missed the 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid most recent time out. Dominguezlooks for maximum revisit

Atletico Madrid defender Alvaro Dominguez feels his side need to get maximum points from their next four Primera Division fixtures as the Rojiblancos look to claw back lost ground on the top teams. Despite a heavy outlay on new players this summer, Atletico have had a sluggish start to the campaign and they find themselves down in eighth spot after six games, six points behind the leaders and five off the Champions League berths. It is im mobile early days in the season but Atletico will not want to slip too much further adrift of their rivals as they attempt to claim a top-four finish for the first time since 2009. However, past facing the likes of Barcelona, Valencia and Sevilla so far, Atletico now have what looks a more favourable run of fixtures against Granada, Real Mallorca, Athletic Bilbao and Real Zaragoza, and Dominguez wants a 100% return from those games. He said: "In these next four or five league games we have to get all the points. This is the objective of the squad, to pick up every point and for this we have to start off winning in Granada. That's all there is to it. "Almost every team is stronger at home than away (but), after two away defeats we have to start winning away if we want to be in the top four.'' Granada find themselves in the bottom two heading into this weekend's fixtures after picking up just four points since their promotion back into the top flight, but Dominguez is not expecting it to be a stroll in the park for his side at Los Carmenes stadium. "Granada are a good team and they are going to show it this season. Nobody is going to make it easy for us. We are going to have to fight whoever we face,'' he said. Granada may be struggling at the wrong end of the table but their one victory so far this season was a notable one, downing finalseason's fourth-placed finishers Villarreal 1-0. Fabri Gonzalez's men also pushed Valencia close last time out, going down to a solitary goal from Sergio Canales at the Mestalla, and defender Allan Nyom wants his team to match those two performances. "Atletico are a fin team, made up of a good individuals, and we have to try and continue doing things well and give the same image that we had against Valencia and Villarreal,'' he said on his club's website. "We are going to give it everything. Los Carmenes is a difficult ground for opposing teams and we are going to try and get the three points.''

Caparros was named as the new Mallorca boss prior to the international break following the resignation of Michael Laudrup and the former Villarreal, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao manager will take charge of his first match. Speaking about his debut fixture, the 55-year-old concedes Valencia, despite having seen the likes of David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata leave over thefinal year, are still a side that demand respect. "Valencia are the third (best) team in the league, they are doing well and despite having had to sell important players they have kept much of their team intact and have a coach who has been there four seasons,'' said Caparros, who hopes his side's fans can play their part in this new Mallorca era. "I would tell them (the fans) that at Mallorca we are all together and that we need them, we (the team) are going to give everything on our part and I want us to evry to be a family,'' he added in AS. Mallorca find themselves ninth in the standings with seven points from six games. Valencia are fifth on 13 points after bouncing back from their home draw against Barcelona and away defeat to Sevilla with a 1-0 home win over Granada last time out. Valencia are back in Champions League action next Wednesday with a trip to Bayer Leverkusen, but coach Unai Emery has warned his side to remain focused on the match or risk suffering defeat at the Iberostar Stadium. He moreover expects the Mallorca players will be looking to impress their new boss, saying: "Mallorca have gone through a managerial change even though they were doing well. They will have the stamp of Caparros, and we know that they are going to be very highly motivated. "The team must produce a top level of performance to be able to play against Mallorca.''

we most play to the screech
Getafe and Villarreal have endured a difficult start to the season with both sides just recording one win from six matches ahead of their meeting on Saturday. Getafe in particular have suffered from conceding late goals to Levante, Espanyol and Malaga that have cost them four point. Defender Albert Lopo recognises that this is a trait his side must eradicate in the coming weeks, starting on Saturday. He said: "It is a class. The match lasts 90 minutes. We have to play to the final whistle and not let any more games escape like the last few have.'' Lopo also believes that both Getafe and Villarreal are currently in false positions, claiming their early-season form has deserved more. "Villarreal and Getafe are two sides that, due to the squad and the type of football, don't deserve to be where we are,'' he added. "But everyone looks to their own interests and we want to play well on Saturday. We will have to work hard because Villarreal are a good team and they have a number of great players.'' The hosts will be without the injured Masilela and Jaime Gavilan and suspended Mehdi Lacen, but are hopeful that Pedro Leon and Miguel Angel Moya will have recovered from knocks in time to take their place in the starting line-up. Villarreal's injury concerns come up front where Nilmar has been ruled out for another six weeks with a meniscus injury, although Marco Ruben may be back in time to deputise for the Brazilian after he returned to light training this week. Hernan Perez also returned late after playing for Paraguay in World Cup qualifiers this week and is unlikely to be involved. Manager Juan Carlos Garrido hopes that the international break will have been good for his squad and that the Getafe game can prove to be a springboard for the rest of the season. "We can't think furtherin front than the match against Getafe because that has to be our turning point to move further up the table,'' he said. "After hard work comes success, and these two weeks we have worked with 90% of the squad which will certainly help us going forward.
