Aston Villa v Wolves
TO WATCH LIVE
Premier League 11:05 (GMT) August 27, 2011 Villa Park, England
If you had been asked to name single of the three teams who have started the Premier League season with 100% records, Man City and Man Utd would be a given, but the surprise so far has been Mick McCarthy's Wolves and they take on rivals Aston Villa - live on ESPN2 on Saturday at 07.05 ET - looking to keep their run going. McCarthy's side were lucky to avoid relegation at the end of previous season on a dramatic final day and have been swimming against the tide since their promotion two years ago. However, after opening with a 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers, Wolves then defeated Fulham 2-0 and briefly went top of the league before City and United usurped them to suggest that the season ahead holds more than a battle against the drop. In form striker Steven Fletcher has scored six goals in his last eight Premier League games, while flying winger Matt Jarvis has continued to press his claims for a new England call-up and scored in both games against Aston Villa last season. With more quality on the pitch than they have had in years, Wolves are largely injury free with Adlene Guedioura and David Edwards still out and, despite Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's injury, will have high hopes for the game.
Wolves, though, look a side in form as Villa have lost just one of their last 10 Premier League matches. They have also proved to be strong at home of late, losing only once in their last nine games at Villa Park - although notably the defeat was 1-0 to Wolves back in March.
Villa are quick off the mark and have impressed in the first-half of their games, getting a good start based on the form of striker Darren Bent, who has scored seven goals in his last 10 Premier League matches. With fellow forwards Gabriel Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey impressing against Blackburn, Villa's frontline is well stocked and McLeish has about a full complement of players to call upon, with only defender Carlos Cuellar guaranteed to miss out.
Wolves player to watch: Kevin Doyle. The Irishman has been in the spotlight yet since his impressive season with Reading a few years back, but has continued to prove himself worthy of playing in the top flight. A good turn of pace and a keen eye for goal has helped elevate Doyle to a position where his manager has gone on record to speak that he would be perfectly comfortable playing for a side like Arsenal or Liverpool. His tireless work up front is key to Wolves' defensive efforts as well as his main job of scoring goals.
Aston Villa player to watch: Shay Given. The goalkeeper left Man City because of a lack of playing time and is certain to become the summer's top value for money transfer. At only £3.5 million, Villa got themselves a bargain and have already seen the best of the Irish international. Very experienced, brave and with some of the best reflexes in the game, Given may be called upon to end the threat of international team-mate Kevin Doyle with regularity but his form is such that Villa can rely on their last line of defence to come out on top.
