Liverpool manager Kenny
Dalglish needs to see his players giving their all in Wednesday night's Carling Cup second-round tie at Exeter as they look to avoid a repeat of their shock exit from the competition last season. The Reds - managed by Roy Hodgson at the time - suffered elimination at the hands of a lower-league side in the third round just under a year ago when Northampton triumphed in a penalty shoot-out at Anfield. Dalglish has confirmed he will make changes for the bind following Saturday's 2-0 Barclays Premier League victory at Arsenal. However, the Scot is mindful of what happened beside the Cobblers and insists neither he nor his team will be taking their npower League One opponents lightly, telling .We want to do the very best we can in this competition. "Although there will be a few changes in the personnel we put out, the attitude should be exactly the same as it was on Saturday at the Emirates. "We'll give people an opportunity to play. The training has been superb, as has their attitude and commitment, so they justify a game. "But it's not a game we just want to go through the motions for and fulfil our obligations in playing the fixture - we want to make sure we have a chance. We had a bad result last year against Northampton at home, and we'll do our best to evade another bad result."
Uruguay international Sebastian Coates has confirmed he expects to sign for Liverpool in a deal reported to be worth £7 million. Coates, 20, has also been targeted by Manchester City but is expected to stir to Anfield unless Roberto Mancini's side make a higher offer than that tabled by Liverpool. The Nacional defender impressed at the Copa America over the summer and has also been the subject of an offer from Ukrainian club Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, but Coates says he is awaiting the chance to link up with international team-mate Luis Suarez. "I'd prefer Liverpool to Manchester City, but would need to see both offers," Coates told Ovacion. "But having the help of Luis Suarez would be very significant. "The Liverpool offer ticks all boxes, so fair to say it's a done deal ... Luis's success is important for me as a different Uruguayan joining. "Liverpool is a club with great tradition and history. Suarez has spoken to Kenny Dalglish and the sporting directors about my signing." Coates will not qualify automatically for a work permit as he has not played in the requisite number of games for Uruguay, but Liverpool will be trustful of securing one on the basis that he is an "exceptional talent". Nacional vice-president Hector Olmes expects the deal to go through. "The offer is very good," revealed Olmes. "Surely Coates will go to Liverpool."
