On-loan Chelsea left-back Ben Gordon is eligible to play for Peterborough but is possible to be on the bench.
Posh are still without Gabriel Zakuani, Nicky Ajose, Dave Hibbert and goalkeeper Joe Lewis.
Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald suffered a hamstring strain during Sunday's 3-1 Championship conquest over Birmingham and will not feature.

* Peterborough have won two of the 13 meetings, Middlesbrough six, with five haggard.
* They last met in the Championship in the season before last. A 2-2 draw at London Road was followed by a 1-0 home win for the Teesside club.
* This is the fourth time they have been drawn to meet every other in the League Cup. Middlesbrough won 1-0 in the fourth round in November 1975, and 1-0 in a fifth-round replay in February 1992, while Posh prevailed in a second-round replay in September 1978.

* They have failed to score in only one of their previous 14 League Cup outings.
Full-back Justin Hoyte has a thigh problem and is unlikely to play in this game.
